Welcome to Herrington ! I am thrilled to continue as a member of the Hawk Family as one of the Dyslexia Support Practitioners!
This is my twenty-seventh year in education, eleventh year in Round Rock ISD and my eighth year as a Herrington Hawk . I have taught Pre-K, Kindergarten and 3rd Grade as well as serving as a K-5th Interventionist. In addition to my time as a public school teacher, I spent four years in Japan teaching English as a Second Language.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University . I currently hold certifications in Early Childhood Education and ESL.
My husband Mike and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary in June and we love spending time with our grown children. Our son Alex is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and is working as an Electrical Engineer here in the Austin area. Our daughter Elizabeth is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. She is an instructional coach in Austin ISD.
While I truly believe we must teach the curriculum, it is most important to teach the child first. We must meet them in their world and guide them through the learning process. It is not enough to offer them the curriculum, we must make it available to them in a way that is meaningful and in which they can grab onto and soar. In my classroom, students guide the learning through questioning, interest and exploration whenever possible. Through partner work, they are able to challenge each other and share the role of teacher. I believe when students guide the learning, the depths of knowledge grow exponentially.
I also truly believe that parents play an integral part of their child's education. Only working together can we help your child reach their greatest potential. I look forward to working with each and every one of you this year. It's going to be a great one!
