COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Spanish IA is considered a novice level language class. It is designed to help students develop a solid foundation in their communication skills in the three modes: interpersonal, presentational and interpretative, as well as to develop an understanding and appreciation of the different Hispanic cultures. The class curriculum supports the five “C’s” or goal areas: communication, cultures, connections, comparisons and communities as outlined in the Standard for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century and the State of Texas Standards (TEKS) for LOTE.
The teacher will conduct the class primarily in Spanish. Students will be regularly presented with language structures that might be unknown to them, but will be given enough elements and clues to make connections and figure out meaning, Comprehensible Input or CI. Developing these strategies is a basic step in acquiring a new language.
