Our Team

Shalinda Kelley

I am so excited to be at Sommer Elementary! My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Stephen F. Austin State University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Reading Specialist Certification. I am also a Wilson Certified Dyslexia Practitioner. I have been an educator in Round Rock ISD for 23 years. I began my career as an ESL classroom teacher before moving into the role of interventionist. I have experience working with grades K-5 in all subject areas and I love my job and working with students. I live in the area with my husband, our 2 wild and crazy boys and our lab, Charlie. On the weekends you can find me at the soccer fields, playing at the park, exploring a new trail or curled up with a great book.

Michelle Wendt

I am a native Texan, and this fall is my 29th year of teaching.

I am a product of our Round Rock schools (K-12). I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UT, and I am certified to teach PreK-6th grade. I am also a Wilson Certified Dyslexia Practitioner. I began my career in AISD, transitioned to RRISD in my 8th year, and then helped open Sommer. I have taught Kinder, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade. I live in Leander with my husband, David, and our dog, Bronx.  David is a manager for his company and works in fraud investigation. My daughter, Cassidy, is a business major at Texas State and works as a DH at our local Home Depot. I love my time with family and friends! Outdoor activities are my favorite--hiking, Jeep rides, and live music!

Bre Tamburro

Hi everyone! I am Breann Tamburro. This will be my 4th year at Sommer Elementary and my 4th year working in education. I was born and raised here in Round Rock and I am a product of the Round Rock school district. I currently live in Cedar Park with my fiance and our dog, Aries, and cat, Leo. I enjoy spending time with family and being outdoors. I am also a huge sports fan. My favorites are football, basketball, and F1.

Kay Gurley

After 45 years in the teaching profession, I retired in 2022. A year later I returned to education as a part-time Educational Assistant in interventions at Sommer Elementary. I have been a classroom teacher in grades 1, 3, 5, a special education teacher, a Reading Recovery teacher, interventionist and dyslexia service provider. I have taught in Tennessee, Michigan, Washington and Texas. I taught 15 years at Robertson Elementary and 2 years at Anderson Mill Elementary in RRISD before retiring. I live in Austin with my husband and Coco, our rescue dog. I enjoy watching my grandson, who is a senior in Early, TX, participate in football, basketball and track.

Kari Simon

This will be my 8th year in the school system and I am truly excited about this opportunity at Patsy Sommer! I was an assistant PreK teacher for 5 years, and spent the last 2 years as a Registrar/Office Manager.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in German and a minor in Equine Science. I grew up in Germany, but have been in Austin for 31 years.  My oldest daughter attends University of Colorado Boulder, my middle daughter will be attending University of Oregon this Fall, and my son is a Sophomore at Westwood.  If we are not at the baseball fields with my son, my fiance and I love to hike with our dog Ally, garden, read, and travel.

coming soon!

Nancy Ann Ling

I’m so glad to be joining the Sommer Elementary family! I’ve been an educator for more than 30 years and have taught all grades levels from K-6th. I have lived in the Austin area for many years and have a wonderful husband, son and daughter-in-law. We take care of five rescue animals, so it’s a busy house. Hanson and I have family in many places in the world and are very excited that our Obachan (grandmother) is turning 100 years old this year in Okinawa, Japan. I really enjoy hiking, biking, gardening, baking, and reading. You can usually find us biking or hiking the trails all over the area!
