I am very excited to begin my 14th year at Deerpark Middle School.
I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, in Nacogdoches, Texas, earning my Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Dance and acquired my Secondary Education Texas Teaching Certification in both subjects. During my studies I was in the Repertory Dance Company and had a piece shown at the American College Dance Festival. While at SFA I also performed as a chorus member and dancer in the University-wide theatre production of the musical Pippin .
While attending SFASU I was an editor for the yearbook - The Stone Fort. I was also the Lyfestyles section editor for the school newspaper - The Pine Log.
One summer I also performed in West Side Story with the Galveston Outdoor Musicals. And assisted in choreographing several church musicals, and a musical at my Alma Mater - Clear Lake High School, where I was a thespian when I was a student.
After leaving SFASU I toured around the world for 12 years teaching and performing with Club Med resorts. While working as the choreographer and entertainment director I spent most of my time organizing the evening shows. My role included preparing non-dancers their roles and bringing them up to a level of performance that was stage worthy. I wrote, directed, cast, stage managed and performed in each show, as well as managed the costume, light, sound and set designers. While directing the shows I coached many people on how to performing various skits and comedy routines. My traveling allowed me experience many different cultures including - Japan, Thailand, Australia, The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands and Mexico.
During the 2001-2 school year I took a break from Club Med and taught Yearbook, Journalism and dance classes at Santa Fe High School, just south of Houston.
In 2011 I was a long-term substitute Dance 1 and 2 teacher at Stony Point High School in Round Rock ISD. And I also set a modern piece on Houston's High School for Performing and Visual Arts that was performed at their Fall Dance Concert. This endeavor gave me experience working with highly trained high school seniors and juniors who will go on to become professional dancers.
For the past 4 summers I have taught aerial classes with the Zach theatre downtown Austin. The summer of 2016 I taught the Long Center's Summer Stock theatre students aerial choreography for their performance of Carnival.
