Annotation

Annotation is a strategy that allows the reader to put their thinking on paper as they read. It is a note taking system. It also allows the teacher to understand the reader's thought processes as they read. We will use an "Annotate Like a Dog" process throughout Hernandez Middle School. As of 9/8/2016, students have been taught how to annotate before reading and three steps of annotation during reading.

1. Read and identify problem vocabulary. Jot down a short definition to help remember what the word means.
2. Identify facts or opinions. Mark them on the page with F or O.
3. Identify the main idea of a paragraph or section before you move on. Write it down.
