About Me

My name is Brooke Hurlbut and I am from Highland Village, Texas. In 2018 I graduated with my Masters of Education after completing the Teacher Fellows Graduate Program at Texas State University. I am passionate about cooperative learning and using brain friendly teaching strategies to maximize engagement. I love to draw, paint, hike, and spend time in nature. This is my sixth year teaching at Pond Springs Elementary. I have taught second and third grade and am so happy to have the role of teaching visual arts!

My PEDAGOGY

My emphasis as an educator is to support and enlighten the young and impressionable minds of students. I focus on teaching individuals to work on critical thinking, problem solving, and social skills so they can learn the basic fundamentals of life.  Teaching children how to collaborate and work with others is beneficial for brain and social development. I believe learning thrives in a positive and safe environment filled with mutual respect and laughter.

Goals for the school year:

Pond Springs uses student voice with choice to engage learning. I strive to get to know each child, capitalize on their talents and interests, and celebrate our differences. The art studio is a safe, welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment for your child. My goal this year is to help children view art as therapy and as a vehicle to express themselves. In the studio, children will build their creativity and problem solving skills alongside their artistic development. Our focus will be on the process, not the final production of art. I am eager to form relationships with your child and help them set and achieve their goals.

I am showing this video to students during the first week of school, feel free to watch to learn more about me!
