About Mrs. Piliere

Hi there! Welcome to our classroom website, where I will post helpful information and resources that I think might be useful in our everyday lives. This is also where you can check out books from our classroom library. In case you are wondering, here is some information about me:

I was born and raised on Long Island, New York, and have been an English Language Arts teacher since 2009. I attended college at both Pennsylvania State University and SUNY Stony Brook University, and received a masters degree in English Education from CUNY Queens College. My husband and I moved all of our belongings, and our dog Leopold, and our cat Misfti to Austin in 2012, where I taught 8th grade in an AISD middle school. Moving across the country has certainly been an adventure, and I am grateful for every minute of it! We have come to love Austin as our new home, and enjoy exploring new restaurants, listening to live music, and experiencing the outdoor activities in this truly wonderful city. In July of 2016, I gave birth to my first child, a son named Sawyer, and he has brought me joy and love like I've never experienced before. I often look at him and think about what I'd want for him in his education, so that I can give that same benefit to your parents. Since starting at Canyon Vista, we have come to adopt several other furrier members of the family. Oscar Wildecat came to live with us in March of 2017 after a neighbor discovered that their daughter was allergic to the brand new kitten they had just adopted. He instantly became a member of the family, albeit the most annoying and hyper one, by far. Not feeling like the carpet had enough animal hair to vacuum, we decided to adopt a spunky little chihuahua mix named Redford from Forgotten Friends Mixed Breeds in December of 2017. In 2019, we adopted a new kitten and named her Maya Angeloucat, which has completed our family of seven. In addition to teaching, I spend my time playing music (classical clarinet and poorly attempted guitar), reading, keeping up with great films, cooking and baking, drinking lots of coffee, and of course, playing with my son and rambunctious pets.

Canyon Vista has been my teaching home since the 2013 school year. I consider myself a lucky teacher to be a part of the CV staff - there is no other school like it. I come to work every day to see you, my students, and I cherish the time we get in the classroom. You are my reason for being here every day, and giving you the best education I can is one of my most important goals (which also means that sometimes I stay up at night worrying about you if you are struggling - so for the sake of my ability to sleep, please let me know if you ever need help!). It is my hope that you leave my classroom better prepared for the world outside our classroom than when when you entered it. I can't wait to get to know you as the year progresses, and always remember that I'm here when you need me!
