Meet the Counselor

Welcome to Old Town Elementary! My name is Karla Quintero-Cabrera and I will be your child’s School Counselor this year.  I am excited about this school year and all the wonderful things that will take place.  Prior to transitioning to counseling, I was an OTE parent, a Special Education aide, and a Special Education Teacher, all at Old Town! I am from El Paso, Texas.  I worked previously as a social worker at Communities In Schools, El Paso inc. I was also a special education teacher at Pasodale Elementary in Ysleta ISD, in EL Paso,  for 5 years. Upon moving to Austin, I worked as a Special Education Teacher at Bluebonnet Elementary for one year. Then transitioned to the Bluebonnet Elementary Counselor the following year.  At this point, our family began to grow leading me to stay home to raise our  three precious girls.  Deciding to return to education in 2016, after 14 years of being home, I took on a Special Education aide position, which slowly turned into a teaching position the following year, to presently being Old Town's Counselor. I am truly thrilled to be working with children again through the Counseling Department! Education wise, I have a BA in Psychology from the University of El Paso and a Master of Educational Counseling from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.  I currently live in the area with my husband,  Jesse, and our three girls.  Carolina and Penélope just graduated from  UT and Estefanía is a junior at UT.  In my free time, I love spending time with my family and friends or jogging around the neighborhood! I look forward to working with you to make your child's educational experience a positive one.
