have a great summer!!

Each day EVERY child over the summer should:

1. Read a good-fit book for a minimum of 20 minutes each day. Participate in some (or all) of the summer reading programs for kids:

  • Read for 20 minutes a day -- material of their choice! Mrs. Kupersztoch, our librarian, has compiled a wealth of resources about summer reading, including a Beach Blanket Bingo Challenge for each student. Check out the jam-packed Google Slides presentation containing ALL of the information and links shared with students!

  • Visit the Library page for fun book give-a-ways.

  • Newsela - A paid resource for nonfiction articles on your child's reading level. You can sign on with your child's Round Rock ISD Google account.

2. Have a slightly higher level chapter book read aloud to them (by an adult who can model fluency and expression) for 15 minutes each day to increase comprehension. (This is one of the most important ways to impact your child's comprehension.) Here is a book list with suggestion that are perfect read aloud options: https://www.whatdowedoallday.com/read-aloud-books-for-summer/

OR start reading books from the Bluebonnet Book List for 2019

3. Compete a math activity or play math game each day.

4. Keep a journal or write letters throughout the summer. Ms. Monroe LOVES to get emails hearing about your summer!

5. Work on skills that are expected to be taught at home by your child's first teachers: YOU! Skill students should know skills like:

  • tying shoe laces
  • know their birth date and year
  • know their home address
  • know parents' phone number
  • how to spell their full names
