Math: This week in math we will start by testing on what we've learned so far about place value and measurement. Then we move on to rounding. We'll look at number lines and learn the rules for rounding and then practice rounding to the 10s and 100s on numbers of all different sizes.
Reading: This week in reading we wrap up Unit 2, learning about informational text features via readings all about animals. This week we will review text features and text structures and how those can help us understand the reading better. We'll also practice taking notes during reading and responding to a prompt about the text using our RACE strategy. Finally, we will test on everything we've learned about text features.
Writing: In writing this week, we'll review all the parts of speech we've learned over the past few weeks: common/proper/concrete/abstract nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Then students begin working on composing their own paragraph about a vertebrate animal of their choosing and how we would classify it as either a reptile, amphibian, bird, mammal, or fish.
Social Studies: In Social Studies this week we have our unit on Heroic Deeds. We'll learn about both historical and contemporary figures and what qualities in those people allow us to consider them heroes. We'll learn about some heroes from Texas as well as some national heroes, like Harriet Tubman. We'll learn about similarities and differences between the people we're learning about and consider how we can identify a real life hero.
