Hello! I'm so excited to be your ASL teacher this year! ASL is my passion and I love teaching those who want to learn. If you are one of my students from last year, I am SO thrilled that you are in one of my classes this year!
I was born Deaf, and I have a profound hearing loss. I was raised in Rapid City, South Dakota and when I graduated from high school, I moved to Rochester, NY to attend RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) which consists of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). It was here that I learned the beautiful world of sign language at the age of 19-20. I graduated from RIT and went on to work for Xerox Corporation in the accounting and finance department for 15 years. After moving to Texas in 2011, I stayed home for a few years with my children and then joined RRHS.
I have over 30 years of experience in ASL and in the Deaf community. I think this qualifies me, eh? :-)
I have 3 children, all of whom are older now and in high school and out of school in the Cedar Park area. My oldest has graduated and is now working in a daycare. She loves the little ones! My middle has also graduated and is a junior at RIT this fall in the Game Design & Development program. I'm so proud that he's attending my alma mater! My "baby" is now starting her SENIOR year of high school! As a mom of older children, if you have younger children, CHERISH these days!! The time goes so fast.
In my spare time, I love to travel. I have been to all except 4 states! I have been to 19 countries, both solo and with my youngest. In the picture above, I am on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland! :-) Come travel with the ASL club next year in 2026 to Spain and Italy! Click on the ASL TRIP tab to find out more about this trip.
I also love to be creative. I have a side business, Bohemian Chick Designs, in which I create home decor out of reclaimed wood as well as jewelry. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram.
I also love to fix up and restore antique furniture. I am also very active and love to ride my bike, go hiking, work out in the gym and participate in 1/2 marathons when I can. I also love hitting the antique stores!
Let's alllll have fun learning ASL together!
