At Home Learning Opportunities- Students are asked to read for 80 minutes at home per week (with family or independently). These activities are encouraged, but optional. They will be rewarded in the classroom with Mrs. Spalding's STAR CARDS!!
I use class and individual reward systems in my classroom. Our class works together to fill our Marble Jar with "Compliments" from Mrs. Spalding and other adults around the school. Once our Marble Jar is full, students will get to vote on a "Marble Day Reward." I will email/Remind notify parents of upcoming reward (generally PJ day, Show & tell; bring a toy; flashlight reading day, eat lunch in the garden day, No Shoes day, etc.). Students can earn STAR CARDS by doing "At Home Learning." Individual students work to earn STAR CARD rewards for themselves to earn up enough for class prizes (Show & tell to the class; bring a toy to virtual class or parents bring to Mrs. Spalding's prize box in front of her house).
PRIMARY REPORT CARD PARENT INFORMATION
Background The RRISD Primary Report Card is a standards-based continuum, meaning that progress is reported on the knowledge and skills your child is expected to master at each grade level. The continuum is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and teachers use a RRISD Rubric for each category.
Mrs. Spalding's Grades/Report Cards
You will receive a paper copy of the Report Card every nine weeks and at the end of the school year (will be sent home in Tuesday Folder).
Here are the Rubric Choices for each subject competency:
LP = Limited Progress
AS= Approaching Standard
MS= Met Standard
Any Assessments will have an actual percentage score based on exact answers (meaning they could receive a 50% if they only got half correct), but most work sent home in Tuesday folder will just be checked so you and I can see what they still need work on.
Early Reading Assessment Information In RRISD, each K, 1, 2 student is assessed using the MClass (DIBELS) Reading Assessments, Aimsweb+ Math assessments, ST Math assessments.The assessments screen a child at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. Your child’s teacher will report a “yes” or “no” on the report card for your child having “Met Standard on Reading Assessment.” Should these assessments indicate your child may be at risk of not being on grade level by his/her third grade year, the teacher will mark “yes” for “Qualifies for Reading Assistance” and request a conference to discuss a plan to support your child’s reading development.
Home-School Communication Teachers submit report cards at the end of each 9 weeks grading periods. You can access these anytime online through the Home Access Center, but check the week after the end of the 9 weeks for the newest report card. If you’ve signed up by email, it will notify you when the report card has posted, but you HAVE TO SIGN in to see 2nd grade report cards. Grades 3-5 have numerical grades, so it sends by email. K-2 have Competency Rubrics which you have to login to view. Here are directions for accessing K-2 Report cards. The system auto emails only work for grades 3-5 who give real grades. K-2 have a rubric system that you have to access through HAC (Home Access Center-click here). If you need help logging in, you can call the front office at 512-428-2100.
To access Report Cards: log into HAC > Grades > Report Cards > Print. This will allow you to view all concepts within each subject area.
