About the Teacher

I am thrilled to have your child in my class! Throughout the year, we will all get to know each other better, but first, a little bit about me...

I grew up in Austin, attending RRISD schools from elementary school through high school. I remember my elementary years with fondness, especially those teachers who had really taken the time to get to know me and patiently nurtured and taught me (I was very shy as a kid!) In high school, I grew interested in teaching as I came upon various teaching experiences, from teaching Chinese dance to children's Sunday School. I realized I had a passion for teaching kids and I went the University of Texas at Austin to pursue and grow that passion.

I received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from UT, but gained so much more than just a diploma. During my study of education at UT, I had the opportunity to spend much time in the "real" teaching world, interning in a first grade and third grade classroom, tutoring small groups in individual students in reading and writing, and student teaching in first grade. After getting my certification for elementary and ESL teaching, I substitute taught in a variety of schools in RRISD and AISD in Kinder to 5th grade classrooms. It was a challenging time to adjust to different types of classrooms, but gave me great ideas for what I wanted my own classroom to be like. This is my seventh year of teaching and my sixth in second grade, and I am thankful to have a supportive staff and community to learn together with. I am looking forward to developing a positive learning environment that makes second grade amazing for each of my students!

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Nathan, watching comedy or action TV shows, reading a good mystery, and playing with our chickens and dog (separately!) We are close with my family, who also lives in Austin.
