March 1, 2024

Dear Parents,

I can’t believe that March has already arrived! It’s amazing to think back and remember the abilities of the children when they first arrived in third grade. I have seen so much growth! I appreciate all you have done, and continue to do, to support me and our students. More success lies ahead and I’m so thankful to have your support.

Congratulations to Alex for being out MVP this week!

Happy Birthday to Preetham!

Have a great weekend!

CHARACTER COUNTS FOR FEBRUARY: POLITE

SCIENCE MATERIAL HEADS UP: On Thursday, your child brought home a soil sample bag. Please remind them to gather a handful of soil (2-3 tablespoons) from their yard or a nearby park and fill out the label. We’ll be using the sample as we begin to study Changes to Land and will compare our samples with those of other students. We will need samples by Tuesday, March 5th.

A MESSAGE FROM MUSIC: Please click here to see information about the Third Grade musical performance on Thursday, March 28. Your child can also find slides and videos that can help them rehearse at home in their teacher’s Schoology homeroom.

SPRING TRAVELS: If your family will be traveling for Spring Break (March 11-15) and your child will be missing a school day before or after the break, please let me know. This allows me to move lessons for your child if they will be missing instructional time. I appreciate your communication!

ATTENDANCE: Regular attendance at school is important, but even more so in the coming weeks. We are in STAAR mode! We begin our third grade skills review in Reading right after spring break and the Math review will begin in three weeks.  Many of the review activities, which include a review of 3rd grade TEKS and further instruction on test taking strategies, often include group or partner discussions and build from one day to the next. While we understand illnesses happen, if your child is healthy, please ensure they are at school and one time.

Additionally the STAAR tests dates are listed below in the Dates to Remember. Please schedule or reschedule any medical or therapeutic appointments around these dates.

MULTIPLICATION HOMEWORK

We have shifted our attention to multiplication to align with our current unit of study (More Multiplication and Division). On Mondays, your child will come home with a sheet to review their multiplication facts and help with building multiplication fact automaticity. The sheet folds to create a brochure with fact practice on all 6 sides. The homework will be due on Friday.  This can be counted towards your student’s ten minutes of math practice a night. Please check with your child throughout the week to be sure they have completed their assignment.

HOMEWORK

If you have questions about your child’s nightly homework, please refer to their planner which should come home and be returned to school every day. Your child will need to complete 20 minutes of reading each night, for a total of 100 minutes a week, and fill out a reading log. Also, on the back of the reading log is a cursive practice.

Additionally, your child should complete 10 minutes of nightly Math: Begin with their weekly math practice sheet sent home on Monday.  Once that is complete students can do things like: flashcards, Math Playground site, other math apps, etc.  Suggested review: Measuring the length and width of 2D shapes and figuring their area and perimeter.  Notice and explore different containers and the amounts of liquid they can hold (capacity); notice the capacity and weight of different products you have in your house.

December 1, 2023

Dear Parents,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break! It’s hard to believe we only have two weeks before our next break. We’ve got lots of activities and lessons planned to make these two weeks fun and also keep learning important skills.

Thank you for returning your child’s permission slip to see The Nutcracker at the Long Center on Wednesday, December 6. Due to the timing, we will need ALL students to bring lunch from home that day. We will eat in our class before we board the bus. Students will also need to be sure to bring a snack to be eaten when we return in the afternoon.  Also, I encourage the children to dress appropriately for the ballet (dresses, nice pants/jeans, collared shirts, etc).  This is always one of my favorite field trips!

Congratulations to Ian for being our MVP this week!

Don’t forget about the PTA Holiday Fair tonight!

Enjoy your weekend,

Mrs. Wear

ITEMS NEEDED FOR DECEMBER CRAFTS:

BARNHILL PRESERVE PRESENTATION: On Wednesday, January 4th, Barnhill Preserve will visit CCE. In order for your child to attend the informative presentation on the different animals this organization works to preserve, you must fill out the permission slip that was in your child’s Homework folder this week. If you do not want to purchase pictures, you can leave the order form portion blank, but you must sign the waiver at the bottom. Please return this form by Friday, December 8th.

TYPING PRACTICE: Students have been practicing their typing skills during Comet Club. If your child would like to practice more at home, there are many different free online typing resources and games. They could also just practice typing a story, paragraph, or poem in a document or slide.

RECESS: Please make sure your child is dressed for the cold/damp weather. We always go outside unless there is rain or freezing temperatures.  Please label your child’s coats, jackets, and sweaters with names.  (Also label lunch boxes and water bottles, too!)  This will prevent our lost and found from filling up.  Thank you!

TAG REFERRAL: Parents who wish to refer their student(s) for TAG (Talented and Gifted) testing can find the link on the RRISD TAG website until 4:30 pm on Friday, December 8th.  Students are eligible to test every year. October 27, 2023

Dear Parents,

This was a fun-filled week of Red Ribbon Week and Halloween excitement! We learned and practiced division strategies, drafted and started revising our personal narratives, analyzed relationships between fiction characters and how they contribute to a story’s plot, practiced reading compound words, started our next science unit by learning about different forms of energy, and listened to Mrs. Bamford read spooky stories to get us ready for Halloween.

Congratulations to Nishna for being our MVP. We learned so much about him this week!

Have a fantastic weekend!
