Course Description

Algebra 2 is an extension of Algebra 1 in that it uses the concepts that are learnt in Algebra 1 and builds on it. The first semester looks like a smaller version of Algebra 1 but the second semester goes onto another level. So please be advised that you have to work on your learning and practicing habits early on if you want to ace through the second semester. The concepts learnt in Algebra 2 are applied to real world and also help in Precalculus and further in Calculus. So to be successful in Calculus, one definitely needs to work on the fundamentals learnt in Algebra 2.

Algebra 2 explores in detail the mathematics of functions. Students will be challenged to investigate and discover, as well as describe and explain the mathematics of real world applications.

Upon successful completion of this class, students will be able to:

  • Solve equations and inequalities involving absolute value
  • Write linear equations using real world data Identify and graph special functions including absolute value and step functions
  • Solve systems of equations with three variables
  • Solve systems of equations using algebraic methods, graphing, and matrices
  • Simplify a radical expression using complex numbers
  • Solve radical equations
  • Write and graph quadratic functions
  • Solve any quadratic equation
  • Write and graph equations of conic sections using their various properties
  • Find composition and inverse of functions
  • Simplify, evaluate and solve equations using logarithms
  • Solve and graph rational relations

We have an excellent year of learning ahead, so buckle up and get ready for a smooth ride!
