Students do have Reading homework Monday through Thursday.
Students will read Monday through Thursday for 20 minutes and fill out the comprehension question each day. Also, Thursday they will write a half page summary on the back. Some students will add a little bit each night for their summary. So when Thursday night rolls around, it's pretty much done. I will check these each morning. Thanks so much! Some students want that Level 3 bead and will do the BONUS and a full page summary. They will pace themselves throughout the week for the summary.
I hope they have told you about their Reading necklace. Students are already earning beads and will add to their necklace during the year. There are 3 levels:
Level 1: basic colored beads (solid, glitter, glaze)/(5th grade quality work)
Level 2: shape beads (6th grade quality work)
Level 3: are the nice charm bracelet beads. (7th/8th grade quality work)
Students start off with a basic dog tag chain and can earn the nice sterling silver necklace chain.
Usually, around 85% of students will step up to the Level 3 arena. :)
YOU would be surprised how students will go for the level 3 beads. They also like to trade down and get the other levels to get more beads for their necklaces.
