Additional tutorials are available during lunch and other times by appointment.
Students may receive extra time for assignments by requesting an extension on or before the due date of the assignment. This request must be made in person or email to Mr. McBride.
Late work is subject to a 10% deduction in the total possible points per day for up to 3 days. After 3 days the maximum point value of an assignment is a 70%.
Corrections for a higher grade are available on any assignment or assessment that is turned in by the due date. I believe the most important thing is the learning, whether that happens on the first, second, or third attempt. We all learn at different paces in different areas and I am willing to work with any student to improve their understanding of the course material. If a student shows the mastery, I believe they have earned the grade. The only exception to this is if a student does not turn in an assignment on time or if a student violates the school's academic integrity policy. Correction instructions vary by assignment/assessment type.
Academic Integrity on Texas History assignments and assessments is expected at all times inside and outside of the classroom. As learning is the number one goal in Texas History, cheating will not be tolerated at any time. Any student found cheating will face consequences including (but not limited to):
The student receives a grade of “0” on the assignment and is granted the opportunity to complete an alternative assignment for a maximum grade of 70; OR the student is assigned academic interventions designed to improve the student’s understanding of the material being assessed AND completion of an assessment over that material for a maximum grade of 70.
The teacher notifies parents or guardians.
The teacher completes a discipline referral which is forwarded to the grade level assistant principal; the record remains in the student’s file.
The student is assigned to an administrative detention.
A more comprehensive explanation of the Academic Integrity expectations at Hopewell Middle School can be found in the Campus Grading Guidelines.
