More About Mr. Weitz

I have been teaching since 1997 and it continues to be as fun and challenging as ever. I really enjoy the activities, real-world issues, and critical thinking involved with teaching and learning science. After studying Biology at San Jose State University, I briefly worked in field biology before serving in the Peace Corps from 1997-1999. I worked as a project manager, ecologist, and educator in the city of Silistra, Bulgaria for over 2 years. I began teaching secondary science in 2001 and I'm currently finishing a M.Ed in Instructional Design.

I like participating in all types of athletics. I try to get outdoors and travel as much as possible with my wife and two sons. I have 5 brothers, 5 sisters, and several nieces and nephews, who live all over the country. I was born and raised in California's Bay Area, but I've lived in Round Rock since 2014. I enjoy exploring the vast landscapes of Texas' State Parks.

I like all things science fiction and I'm a big aviation nerd. Finally, I bleed orange and black as a SF Giants' faithful fan..although the Astros are growing on me.

My Teaching Mission:

I believe that science is both lived and learned. I would like students to come out of my class with a solid understanding of our standards-based curriculum, as well as an ability to observe and critically think about the world in which they live, work and play.

This will be achieved through in-class discussions, and group activities, as well as some individual assignments that may need to be completed at home.
