Explain how sectionalism, issues about state’s rights, economic conditions, and the election of 1860 led to the start of the Civil War.
Analyze the ideas about liberty, equality, union and government expressed by Lincoln and Davis in their inaugural addresses and analyze how physical geography, infrastructure, and settlement patterns affected the war strategies.
Explain the significance of the firing on Ft. Sumter, the battles of Manassas, Antietam, Gettysburg, Vicksburg and the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation had on the course of the Civil War and describe the role Lee, Grant and Jackson played in the Civil War.
Explain the significance of the dates 1861-1865 and analyze Lincoln’s ideas about liberty, equality, union and government contained in the Gettysburg Address and his second inaugural address.
Explain the significance of Lee’s surrender at Appomattox Court House and Lincoln’s assassination in ending the Civil War and explain the role Civil War heroes William Carney and Philip Bazaar played in the Civil War.
