Español II
Course Description:
In Español II, students will expand upon the foundation built during their studies of Español I. Students will continue to study and learn vocabulary and grammar structures as well as practice their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. By the end of Español II, students will have expanded their foundation for language acquisition and be able to read, write, understand, and speak at an upper beginner Spanish level when dealing with familiar topics.
Course Objectives:
Unit 1:Travel Preparation
First LT focuses on review, likes, dislikes, preferences, etc
Weather and Clothing (based on travel destination)
Preparing for trip
Unit 2: The City
Expansion of forms of the preterite that is introduced
“Type 1” irregulars: Ir, ser, dar, ver,
“Type 2” irregulars: andar, estar, tener, hacer, decir
Unit 3: Then and Now
Daily Routine: Compare my routine over break vs. during school year (note: this unit starts when we return from winter break)
Childhood Experiences
Compare my childhood to now.
The imperfect
Unit 4: “Celebrations
I can identify different celebrations and festivals in the Spanish-speaking World.
I can describe important celebrations and festivals in my community and what holidays I celebrated growing up.
I can narrate a story related to a special event/ celebration in the past.
I can compare and discuss celebrations in other countries with those in my community.
I can use the regular and irregular forms of the imperfect and preterite tense.
