All identified students will be served through Talent Development. We will work on critical thinking skills using Think Law and Depth and Complexity Icons. We provide social and emotional learning (SEL) activities, and complete Advanced Level Products and Performances (ALPPS) that are showcased at the end of the year. See more on ALPPS below.
If students are identified in the area of reading, science, or social studies, primary instruction and grades will be provided through their grade-level teacher. If schedule & staffing permit, there may be also be additional small group or push in instruction with a TAG teacher. This may include Book Clubs or extensions of what students are learning in class.
Students who are identified for gifted services in math will participate in both an accelerated and enriched math curriculum. The accelerated math services begin in 3rd grade. In each year, grades 3 through 6, the student will complete a year and a half of math curriculum. Students who participate will have an adjusted STAAR schedule for math.
Please see this document for more details.
All students grades 2-5 are required to complete and ALPPS project and presentation. The RRISD rubric will be used as a guide to measure student success. We will complete the majority of the project in the spring semester.
Students who participate in services designed for gifted/talented students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment.
