Dear Parent or Guardian,
I am excited to welcome you and your student to the Cedar Valley Middle School Art Program. In Art I students will create art from direct observation, imagination and personal experience; as well as be involved in both school and community events. They will learn how to talk about and implement the use of the elements and principles of art and design effectively. In addition, they will gain insights into the artwork produced by others through art criticism, and acquire greater knowledge of art history and the art of different cultures.
This year we will be following the campus behavior expectectation plan “PATH”
P-Productive

T-Trustworthy
H-Honorable
If a student chooses to not follow the art classroom PATH expectations there will be certain consequences:

Grading
Major Projects (35%)
There will be between 2-3 major projects every six weeks. Students will have adequate time to complete projects in class. If they are unable to complete the project by the deadline they may attend tutorials before or after school to complete the assignment. Specific art materials on major projects usually make it difficult for students to complete projects from home, but when possible they may also complete major projects from home if necessary.
Sketchbooks, Practice, and Vocabulary check-ins(65%)
This sections includes warm ups, rough draft and technique practice, project check ins, and vocabulary demonstrations, games, and quizzes.
Midterm & Final Exam (10%)
Midterm and Final Exams will be multiple-choice tests. Students will review in class one week prior to the scheduled exam.
Late work
Students will be given plenty of time to work on projects during class, however, if more time is needed they may set up time to work outside of class time during morning or afternoon tutorials. Students must turn in an assignment one week after the project’s in class due date. Work turned in after this point will be a 10 point deduction. Work must be turned in by the end of the six weeks to receive credit.
Supplies
The main goal of the art curriculum is to introduce art to your child as they creatively use a variety of artistic media. CeVMS art department furnishes all the tools, equipment, and materials needed in each art class. A partial list of the variety of supplies used throughout the year is as follows:
Clay Prismacolors Drawing paper Poster board
Glaze Pastel Watercolor paper India Ink
Acrylic paints Ebony pencils Sketchbooks Tempera Paint
Markers Blending stumps Erasers Glue
Printing Ink Watercolors Construction paper Brushes
These supplies are purchased through CeVMS for $30.00 per year. We are able to buy in large quantities through art suppliers, so a material charge is more economical than having parents purchase the correct supplies individually. With a supply fee this will also help you as a parent to ensure that your child has the supplies they need to have a successful year in art. Please provide the amount in check only made out to Cevms and include driver’s license # and your child’s name on check.
*In addition to your own child’s fee, if you are interested in sponsoring a student who is unable to pay the fee, please add your donation amount to your payment.
*Please turn in supply money by Friday, August 30th.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please feel free to contact me.
I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you this coming school year!
Thank you,
Melanie Morey
