3rd Grade Grading Policy:
Number grades are new for rising 3rd graders! The Third Grade team places an emphasis on learning and engaging in the content, and giving students plenty of opportunities to demonstrate their mastery. Our mission is to build up learners and empower them to engage in the curriculum: they are more than just a number on any given assignment. We appreciate you embracing this theology with us! Below, please find information on the grade-wide grading policy.
Assignment Weighting:
For a subject's overall grade, assignments and tests are weighted. Daily assignments account for 70% of the overall grade, and assessments account for 30% of the overall grade. Daily assignments are completed more frequently, so they are given more weight in the overall grade.
Late Work Policy:
The expectation is that students complete their assignments in class the week they are given. Each 3rd grade class has time built into their schedules in each subject area to complete independent work given, as well as separate office work time each day. Assignments not turned in by Friday of the week they are assigned are given a "M" in the gradebook, and are counted as missing and late. Students still turn in late assignments, but 10% will be taken off their final grade.
Missing Work Policy
Missing work is put into HAC as a "M", which equates to a 0 for the assignment. Students are given a week to submit the assignment before it is inputted as a "M" - this is due to the pace that we work through our curriculum, and the need to keep pace as a class. If missing work is an ongoing issue, your student's teacher will reach out to you.
If a student is absent for an extended amount of time (vacation, leave of absence, etc), they will be given the same amount of time they were absent to complete missing work assigned in class.
In the event of an extended vacation or time away from school, teachers will not be giving work in advance. When a student returns from their absence, their teacher will have their work ready for them to complete.
Retake Policy:
Students who score below a 70% on an assignment are given a reteach on the topics they missed and then are given the opportunity to redo the assignment. The highest they can score is an 75% on the redone assignment.
