My Professional Learning

I recently learned about various progression of reading skills in a workshop lead by Jennifer Serravallo. Studying student response on a continuum of thought is a lens to analyze readers' thinking process, their skills, and to guide us as we determine how to respond through teaching and supporting students.

I have learned a lot from the works of Carl Anderson through webinars, professional reading, videos, and in-person PD. My school district had the pleasure of working with Carl Anderson at one of our elementary campuses. From this experience, I learned to be more intentional on scaffolding learning by calling writers back to me soon after a conference to check in on how they were applying the strategy taught a writing conference.

Jeff Anderson, via webinar, worked with our school district on guiding us through his invitation process through mentor sentences. Right now I am excited about the possibilities his books, Patterns of Power, brings to structure grammar study in our new ELAR curriculum.

I had the great opportunity to attend the La Cosecha Dual Language Conference. This slide came from Freeman & Freeman's session on Teaching Reading and Writing in Spanish and English. I made connections with the MSV cueing system I've used for years in analysis of running records to the linguistic cuing system bilingual readers rely on as they process texts. Love this thinking and work!
