A subscription with print and digital access is also available for educators (pricing is about $5.00 per student per school year), with different content for different age / grade bands. The articles include a wide range of text features, lots of color photos, and they offer a chance to discuss current events in a student-friendly way. There is also a free online site for kids, with a couple of pictures, short articles, and fun facts.
Teaching Kids News is a Canadian news site geared toward upper elementary/middle school. Content is free to access, but there is not a lot of new content every week. It does have a large collection of archived articles.
Common Sense Media is a resource for parents that strives to offer information about books, movies, games, and pop culture. It includes a summary, reviews, and ratings about various aspects of a product, such as the level of violence or commercialism present. It offers age recommendations. No organization can match what's best for an individual child, so its ratings should not be accepted as rigid rules, but it can offer some starting information.
