Q: Who can check out books?
A: Students, staff, and JLJ families! Ask if you need to set up an account.
Q: How long can students check out books?
A: Students can keep books for one week, but they can ask to renew them if they are not finished.
We ask students and staff to return books as soon as they are finished so that the next person can enjoy them.
Q: I Lost of damaged my book. What do I do?
A: If your book is damaged or lost, please come to the library to let us know. If we can't fix the damaged book, we may need to order a replacement. We will ask you to pay to replace the book. If that is not possible for your family right now, let us know when you receive the bill and we will work something out.
Q: What if I have overdue books?
A. We will ask you not to check out any more until you have returned the books you have checked out. There are no fines for overdue books. Please do return them so that other people can read them!
Q: Are there limits on book checkouts?
PreK and Kindergarten students check out one book at a time.
1st and 2nd graders can check out two books at a time, 3rd graders can check out three books at a time, and 4th and 5th graders can check out up to four books at a time.
We ask students not to check out more than one book from the same series, especially the more popular series where many students are waiting on those books.
If students have not returned any books, we ask them to return books before they can check out new ones.
Q: Are there fees or fines to use the library?
A: It is free to borrow books and use the digital resources in our library. We do not charge late fines, although we ask students to return or renew books before they can check out new ones. We do charge students for lost or damaged books. We can now accept online payment for loss or damages to your books.
Q: When can students check out books?
Each class at JLJ has a library checkout time on the same day each week, so students have a predictable day to return books to school. Ask your classroom teacher for the schedule, which is established during the first couple weeks of the school year.
We recommend families set a library reminder the evening before library day to ensure students have their books. We also recommend that students keep their library books in backpacks (preferably in a plastic bag) when they aren't reading the books - this keeps them safe from spills, pets, siblings, and getting lost.
