Class Descriptions

Accounting I exposes students to the world of assets, liabilities, balance sheets, and income statements. The mission for the course is to offer students mastery of beginning accounting principles, the advantage of preparation for college accounting courses, and insight into suitability for a career in business/accounting.

Accounting II builds on the foundation established in Accounting I, covering accounting for assets, liabilities, and equity (including long and short-term investments, accounts receivable, notes receivable, inventories, property, plant, equipment assets, intangible assets, payables, contributed capital, earnings and distributions, financial statement analysis, formation and dissolution of partnerships, division of profits and losses, not-for-profit organizations - budgeting and control, departmental accounting systems, and much more).

Principles of Business, Marketing, and Finance is a one-year introductory class, which is true to its title. Students will receive a good sampling of all three areas, which will help them choose a specialty for future studies in business, accounting/finance, or advertising/marketing.  Additional courses in each area are offered at Westwood High under the umbrella of the Business and Industry Academy.  This "Principles" class is a good starting point as students are determining areas of interest for high school and college studies.
