LIBRARY PROGRAM:
The Great Oaks Elementary Library operates on a modified flexible schedule and includes daily access for students. Students in 1st-5th grade visit the library every other week with their class for a scheduled library lesson and checkout time. Students in Pre K and Kindergarten will visit the library weekly. Teachers can send students to the library in between visits if they need to return their books and select new ones.
CHECKOUTS:
All library books can be kept for 2 weeks at a time. Students are also able to renew books for an additional 2 weeks if they need time to finish reading them. There are no fines for late/overdue books.
Kindergarten- 1 book at a time to start
1st Grade- 2 books at a time
2nd Grade- 2 books and 1 audiobook
3rd- 5th Grade- 3 books and 1 audiobook
DAMAGED & LOST BOOK POLICY:
Accidents happen! If a book is accidentally damaged, please bring it to the library and let us know so that we can attempt to repair it.
If a book is damaged beyond use or is lost, we ask that the student pay the cost to replace the book so that we can purchase that book again for our collection. We will send a note home with the replacement cost listed, and you may send in payment or make an online payment.
Note: Please do not purchase a copy of the book on your own. We go through district-approved library vendors to purchase books that are library-bound and include the barcodes and cataloging necessary for circulation.
DAMAGED & LOST ID CARDS:
Students are issued a new ID card at the beginning of each school year, which is used to check out books and to make purchases in the cafeteria. If a student needs a replacement ID card, there is a $5 replacement cost. You may send in payment or make an online payment.
