About Me

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Fifth Grade! I am extremely excited to be at Laurel Mountain. I have heard so many great things about our community and the passion our staff, students, and parents have for our school. I have the same enthusiasm and passion for teaching and I couldn't be happier to be in Fifth Grade.

I have a Bachelor in Human Development and Family Studies from Texas Tech University. Go Red Raiders!! I am a Red Raider fan through and through (sorry Longhorn fans!). I also have a Masters Degree in Education from Wayland Baptist University. I have taught middle school, second and third grades. I enjoyed all of them but I have to say I love the growth that happens in fifth grade.

I believe students are willing and ready to learn, we just have to give them the tools to create something great. I think placing the educational tools in their hands while helping them facilitate their own learning allows for growth. The most important part of teaching for me is the relationships we have with each other! Teachers, staff, students, and parents alike make up so much of our positive community. I want them to take what they learn from my class and develop who they want to be in the future.

My family and I moved here from Lubbock, Texas (yes, the flat lands) during the summer. We have enjoyed getting to know the area and look forward to making it our permanent home. I have four precious children. My daughter, Ashleigh, and my three boys, Kaiden, Kristian, and Kaileb. I also have a very supportive fiance, Sammy. Although, moving to Round Rock was a huge change and step for us, there is no doubt this is where we need to be.

I look forward to getting to know you and your family this year! It will be a challenging and successful year!

If you ever have questions or just need to get in touch with me, feel free to contact me. My classroom number is 464-4441 or contact me by email at melissa_gonzales@roundrockisd.org. I look forward to having an extraordinary fifth grade year!

Sincerely,

Melissa
