Policies & Grading

Both Government and Economics are semester courses that are required for graduation.

Grading

  • Six Weeks Grades: Social Studies Department policy divides grades into major (40% of six weeks grade) and minor (60% of six weeks grade). Each six weeks period will have a minimum of two major grades. Usually, there will be three major grades per six weeks. My classes will further divide the minor grades into Quizzes (30%) and Daily Work (30%). There will be at least three quizzes per six weeks. District grading policy mandates a minimum of one grade per student per week.
  • Semester Grades: Each six weeks counts for 28% of a student's semester grade. The semester final exam counts for 16% of a student's semester grade.

Tutorials

Flex time may be used for tutorials. Flex time for 1st and 6th will be primarily for economics students. Flex time for 2nd, 4th, 7th, and 8th will be primarily for government students. Flex time for 3rd and 5th are open to all of my students.

Out of school tutorials are offered from 8:20 - 9:00 am on Tuesdays and 4:20- 5:00 pm on Wednesdays.

Late work

Work that is turned in after it is due will be reduced to a 70%. Work turned in after that will have a maximum grade of 50% of the total allotted for the assignment. ALL late work is due the final Wednesday of the six weeks.

Make up work

Students with an excused absence or school related absence may make up work with no penalty provided it is turned in the class period after the student returns to school. Missing assignments may be found on the appropriate tab in this website or on Google classroom.

Students are responsible for filling out the daily learning log for all classes missed prior to asking questions about make-up work.

Cell phones

Cell phones use is generally prohibited in class. Round Rock ISD allows teachers to confiscate and turn in to the nearest administrator any cell phone that is being used contrary to class policy. It is the policy in this classroom that cell phone use is prohibited UNLESS explicitly told otherwise. Emergencies may be handled outside of class. (Students with an emergency during class are expected to step outside of the class and deal with it.)

Tardiness

Students are expected to be on time daily. Students who are chronically late or who abuse restroom privileges will be referred to their respective assistant principal for appropriate follow-up.
