In addition to our Friday pathways and our classroom enrichment activities, the E2 program also provides a few special events.
Annual Day of Service:
Each year, our entire school engages in a Day of Service. Every grade level engages in a service program that supports our community. Some of the service organizations we have partnered with are: Hope Austin, Coats for Kids, SD Clothes Closet, UT Sprouts, The Charlie Center, Balcones Canyonlands Wildlife Preserve, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, and Health for Humanity.
Take Me Outside Day!
Take Me Outside Day is an annual event that originated in Canada. The heart behind Take Me Outside Day is to get students out in nature to explore the natural world around them. During this event, all of our special area teachers and support staff led students in different activities throughout the day. Some of our activities included creating journey sticks in the Preserve, playing a Native American game called Hoop and Arrow, learning about wildlife corridors, bird nest making, twig monogramming, and more! You can find out more about Take Me Outside Day here.
Storybook Character Day
Every year on October 31, we celebrate Storybook character day by dressing up as characters from children's literature. Students and teachers alike celebrate! We also have a storybook character parade. The E2 department helps to create plans and activities for teachers to use in their classrooms to extend this celebration.
The Charlie Center
Over the years, Laurel Mountain has developed a partnership with The Charlie Center, a local non-profit that supports the unhoused here in our community. Classes have the opportunity to sign up to bring a main dish or side dish to the Charlie Center to serve. The e2 budget provides the resources to purchase the ingredients and supplies needed to prepare these meals. Classes cook the meals in the Hive and then the meals are delivered by an LME staff member. It's an amazing opportunity for our students to give back on an ongoing basis. You can learn more about the Charlie Center here.
Earth Day
We love Earth Day at LME! Every grade level engages in a different activity that directly ties to the environment in some way. For Earth Day 2025 in addition to our grade level activities, we hosted a student run and led clothing swap, hosted community partners to talk about how their organizations tie in to sustainability, and had our first annual Film Festival!
