Mystery novels follow a crime from the moment it is committed to the moment it is solved and turn the reader into a detective trying to figure out the who, what, when, and how of the crime. Most mysteries feature a detective or private investigator solving a case as the central character. Mysteries usually start with an exciting hook, set a mysterious mood, reveal information slowly, leave clues behind, provide a few red herrings, and tie up the loose ends.
If you like this genre but are interested in stories that are largely told through pictures, remember that the graphic novel format can include ANY genre—not just superhero stories and manga. So be sure to check out that collection as well.
