In historical fiction, the story takes place in the past and captures the details of the time period as accurately as possible for authenticity— including social norms, manners, customs, and traditions. Many historical fiction novels tell fictional stories that involve actual historical figures or historical events. Historical fiction usually takes place during an authentic period in history and is set in a real historical place; combines real events and fictional events; includes characters who are real, fictional, or both, but look, speak, and act in ways that accurately reflect the era; incorporate authentic dialogue to the time period that reflects the status of the characters who are speaking; and has conflicts people of that era would encounter.
If you like this genre but are interested in stories that are largely told through pictures, remember that the graphic novel format can include ANY genre—not just superhero stories and manga. So be sure to check out that collection as well.
