Performance Policy

The Round Rock School Board has determined that Band/Choir/Dance/Orchestra/Musical Theatre/Theatre are Performing Arts and that performances are an extension of the classroom. These after-school rehearsals and performances are part of the course curriculum and are graded events. In the event of a conflict, parent/guardians should notify Ms. Stevens by email as soon as possible.

All students who miss required after-school rehearsals or performances will be required to complete a make-up assignment in order to earn full or partial credit for the missed rehearsal or performance. In the event that a student misses both a mandatory rehearsal and performance, make-up assignments will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

With minimum of 3 weeks advanced notice in writing from parent prior to a rehearsal or performance:

Student will receive an alternate assignment for maximum of 100 points.

With less than 3 weeks advanced notice in writing from parent prior to a rehearsal or performance:

Student will receive an alternate assignment for maximum of 70 points.

No written communication from parent:

Students will receive an alternate assignment for 50 maximum points.

Extenuating Circumstances:

A death in the family, injury and/or any other extenuating circumstance(s) that may arise will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Costumes

Students will be given instructions on what to wear for costume pieces for performances. Sometimes items will be provided for students and sometimes items will be provided by the student. Please do not ever feel obligated to purchase anything new. Using items that are currently in closets or borrowed from friends or family members is encouraged, but if you would like to purchase new items that is up to each dancer’s family.

Hair

Hair should be fixed for each performance as directed by the teacher. Additional items such as bows, headbands, scrunchies, etc. should not be worn unless directed by the teacher.

Jewelry

Wearing jewelry is not allowed for performances unless directed by the teacher. This includes earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces, watches, etc.

Makeup

Wearing makeup for performances is required. A lip color in a shade of red with mascara and blush/bronzer would be considered the bare minimum. Wearing additional makeup such as eye shadow, eye liner, etc. is highly suggested if the student feels comfortable wearing it. Please stick to makeup colors that are earth tones and natural colors unless otherwise instructed. Your dance teacher must have written confirmation from a parent/guardian if the student is not allowed to wear makeup.
