Using the Button tool
A button can look better than a simple hyperlink. Try it by clicking on "Insert" then scroll down to find the button option. From there you can add a name for your button and a URL or site page to link to.
See the sample buttons below!
Since emojis are part of the unicode, you can copy them and use them as regular text. Go to one of the listed sites below and find an icon of your choice. Copy the icon and paste it
You can also add the emojis to your pages.
Make your own buttons
Make a button at https://dabuttonfactory.com/ and save it to your computer.
Click Images in the Insert menu and select the button image file to insert it.
Click the button and the Insert Link icon above the inserted image and enter the URL you want the button to go to.
Use images in your Backgrounds
Create a Scrolling Banner
To create scrolling banner like the one above, copy the HTML code below.
<html>
<body>
<marquee font style="bold" scrolldelay="100"><font size="5" face="Verdana"><font color="#BC8F8F">***Simple scrolling text***</marquee>
In the Insert Menu, click Embed, select Embed Code, and paste.
Find the part in the code you have just pasted that says ***Simple scrolling text*** and edit it with your own.
You can change the font size (2 - 5) and the font, color (use hex code found here) and style.
Use an Incognito Window to Test your Site
Caution! Anything you insert onto a Google Site needs to be visible in your Google Drive. Remember that by default your files are PRIVATE! You need to change the sharing permissions. If you embed Google Slides or a video from Drive it will look awesome to you because you have access to those items. Anyone else will not be able to view it on your Google Site. Checking your site in an incognito window allows you to see what your students or families will see.
Headers
Check out Google Sites Banner Template (Great for adding your Bitmoji)
We can't upload a video to our headers, but you can upload a gif. This will allow a bit of movement to your header (like the one above). I highly recommend looking at cinemagraphs.
Add a site-wide Footer
Scroll to the bottom of any page.
Use the + Add footer button
Enter the content you want to appear in the footer
Your fooder now appears at the bottom of every page on the site.
You can add any type of content to the footer, ex.) text, images, links.
Scroll to the bottom of any page.
Use the Hide footer on this page icon (looks like an eye)
Your footer hides on the page.
The Footer is a great place to share information that you want to include on all pages.
Adding a Site Logo and Favicon
The favicon is a small square image that represents a website in web browsers. This is also the image that will be displayed when you store it in your bookmarks.
The logo will be displayed in the top left corner of your website and will be displayed no matter which page you're on.
Go to Settings
Brand Images
Choose Upload or Select Logo or Favicon
Favicon image will appear on the Chrome tab for the published site (not the editable site)
