Use of crutches/wheelchair in the school setting
RRISD does not provide crutches/wheelchairs for use in the school setting. Students are required to submit a note to the school nurse from a health care provider/physician to use crutches/wheelchair at school. The healthcare provider note should include the anticipated length of time the crutches will need to be used and the length of time the student needs to be excused from wellness/recess. Students with lifelong medical conditions are exempt from needing a health care provider's note for the use of crutches/wheelchair while at school.
