CEDAR RIDGE SPORTS MEDICINE
STAFF ATHLETIC TRAINERS
What is an athletic trainer?
Athletic Trainers (AT’s) are multi-skilled allied health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative injury services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic Trainers are nationally certified through the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC), and state licensed to care for athletes and other active populations.
What services do we provide?
Staff Athletic Trainers at Cedar Ridge High School provide medical coverage for all UIL-sanctioned sports and activities. Our scope of practice allows us to evaluate emergency medical injuries on the field of play and coordinate care with physicians and emergency personnel in the area. Athletic Trainers determine the ability of an athlete to safely compete or aid in a referral ensure the athletes safety and recovery.
Athletic Trainers play a large role in treatment and rehabilitation of athletes in order to return to them from acute and chronic injuries. In the athletic training facility, ATs coordinate therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries.
A 2016 Study of 263 regional AT’s assessments alongside doctors, found that 92% of the diagnoses by AT’s were agreed on by physicians. See the published study here.
