Classroom Management Plan and Grading Procedures

At Canyon Vista Middle School we firmly believe that all students deserve rigorous lessons, support, and a strong educational foundation to be successful. Throughout the school year I will be assessing your students mastery of skills. If your student needs additional support in tutorials or separate scaffolding to be successful this will be provided for them. In order to ensure a successful learning environment for students, positive classroom behavior will be enforced.

Students who earn less than a 70% will have a required tutorial. If a student is distracted by technology or disrupting the learning environment the first consequence is a warning and reinforcement and praise for positive behavior. The second consequence is a parent contact and the third is a referral. I will continue to reinforce positive behavior throughout the year.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

Leaving Class

Please come ready for class so you don’t miss any time. If you need to use the restroom, please have your pass filled out. When you’re back from time missed, please check our class notes or with a friend first.

Materials

Please bring your writer’s notebook, a pencil, and a book or ebook every day. You will also need a folder to collect and keep track of your classroom handouts. A box of kleenex to donate to the classroom would be greatly appreciated!

Writer’s Notebooks

Writer’s Notebooks are a large part of what we do in class. In order to advance as a writer and a critical thinker you need to practice writing stategies and analyzing professional writer's style, content, and process. I will not be collecting notebooks after every assignment, but will monitor how much work and the effort and quality that is produced.

Homework

Plan on twenty minutes of homework per night, either through reading a book of your choice or writing in your notebook. In addition, you may have grammar assignments.

Absences

When you’re absent, your first step should be to check the notes on our weekly Google Classroom Slides. Everything we do can be found there and students have access to them wherever they are. Just check Google Classroom.

Grading Policy

60% assessments/published writing pieces/projects

40% daily assignments

**If you have scored below a 70, please come to discuss making up the grade up to a 70. The exception to this is if you have below a 70 due to late/missing work.**

Late Grades

Absent Work

Students who are absent are given the same number of days they were out to complete the work. After this it falls into the late grade policy.
