CLASS CALENDAR
Class Overview
Sixth grade science is the beginning of a sequence of science classes that build students' readiness for later middle school and high school science courses required for science literacy, tested by the state of Texas, and used to ensure students are career and college ready.
Sixth grade science covers a number of topics, but is not STARR Tested. Middle school students take their Science STARR test in 8th grade and it covers material from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
Units/Topics covered in sixth grade include: Ecosystems, Classification, Properties of Matter, Density, Chemical Reactions, Energy Transformations, Energy Resources, Thermal Energy Transfer, Force and Motion, Structure of the Earth and Plate Tectonics, Rock Cycle, and Space! (More information on the science curriculum can be found here)
All science class students are expected to have the following materials with them every day in class:
Pencil
Highlighter
Chromebook (charged)
Chromebook Charger (if your student needs a new charger, one can be purchased from the technology office at school for $15)
Composition Notebook (they can leave this in the classroom if they'd like)
Classes last approximately 43 minutes and are spread across 8 periods throughout the day at Hernandez Middle School.
Daily School Hours are 8:15am-3:35pm.
TUTORING AND TUTORIALS
Mondays & Tuesdays from 3:45pm - 4:30pm* & Mornings by Appointment Only

Attending tutoring and tutorial hours is not just for students missing work or needing to make test corrections. These sessions are an opportunity for students to get 1:1 attention from Dr. Rollins regarding their understanding of the material and their performance in class. Below are a few of the reasons a student might need or want to attend tutoring:
Reviewing challenging concepts
Retaking or Correcting a Test (can only be done in tutoring hours)
Ask the teacher for help with science materials
A quiet place to work on or complete assignments
Make up missed work
Discuss their grade in the course
Discuss study techniques to prepare for unit tests and quizzes
