Two Ways to Audition:
Sign Up for an Audition Time: Sign up for an audition slot on your audition form and show up just for that slot (no waiting!). You can also sign up at the same time as a friend or family member so you can be in the same audition group. (Prescheduled slots are FULL - please attend during open auditions, 7:45 pm-9:00 pm).
Come to Open Auditions: Come during our open audition time whenever fits your schedule. Note that if you come during open audition times we cannot guarantee the length of your wait time.
The scheduled time for these two ways to audition are:
5:30-7:45pm Sign up for an audition time (Prescheduled slots are FULL - please attend during open auditions, 7:45 pm-9:00 pm).
7:45-9:00pm Come anytime - note that there may be more waiting time

Youtube or video auditions are only accepted for anyone unable to attend auditions in person. Auditions should include you doing the singing and acting auditions (follow the directions below). If you would like, you can also include a minute of you dancing. Be sure to fill out the online audition form. Video/Youtube auditions should be submitted to stagemanager@rosetownplayhouse.org by 5pm on Tuesday, April 22.
Arrive at RAMS and enter through the "Theatre" door. Signs and volunteers will direct you where to go from there.
Here's how it will go:
Check In. If you filled out your form online we will confirm your information, and if you need to fill out a paper form we'll have you do that. We'll take your picture and get you a nametag, then all your info will be set to go!
Music & Acting Audition. First you'll audition for the directors with a group of 4-5 other people. See more details on this below.
Dance Audition. In a group, you will be taught a short dance by our choreographer, practice it several times and then perform with a group for an individual score.
All Done! It's that easy. :)
You will go up on stage in groups of 4-6 people. Each person will sing individually and after that each person will do their acting audition individually.
Singing Audition: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY and COME PREPARED!
Sing 60 seconds or less of a song you have prepared and memorized (just enough to hear a verse and a chorus of your chosen song - not the whole song). You will sing a capella (without piano or any other instrument or recorded accompaniment). Be sure to practice your song in front of others–it's about your presence, delivery & volume in addition to your singing! For our youngest auditioners, practice the "ABCs" or "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" or another song that is known very well for the auditioner.
*Please time yourself at home to make sure your selection is no longer than 60 seconds, so everyone has equal time and opportunity to sing.
Please DO NOT choose:
A pop song (for example: not something by Taylor Swift, Prince, Michael Jackson, etc.)
A song from "Mary Poppins"
Please DO choose a song that:
Has a melody and is lyrical (do not choose a song where the words are more spoken than sung)
Shows off your vocal range and your voice, and you know well.
Acting Audition: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
Tell us a story where someone is surprised by an act of kindness. You can be that person in the story who is showing kindness, or tell it from the point of view of another person within that story. Tell us what happened, how you felt, and what you did.
The length of your story should be no longer than 45-60 seconds. You need to move, smile, speak loudly, use lots of expression and have your story memorized. Your story should be fictional, creative, imaginative and fun.
*Please time yourself at home to make sure your selection is no longer than 60 seconds, so everyone has equal time and opportunity to tell their story.
When you do your acting audition we are looking for:
Can we hear you? Can we understand you?
Are you using your body to help tell the story in gestures and in how you stand and move?
Are you using your facial expressions and tone of voice?
If you are auditioning with a friend or family member, you may tell your story together, just be sure that you practice together and it should be no longer than 45 seconds per person in the group. If you choose this option, it should be interactive, not just one at a time.
