Expectations of Design Students :
Show respect for the space we work in - D6 is a purpose built space with high spec computers, programs and printer. There is STRICTLY no food or drink allowed, bags must be on or under the middle tables ( not at the computer ).
Students should not have their mobile phones out during a lesson.
Enter the room and set up at a computer quickly and quietly
Work in your own space - do not interfere with the learning of others
Speak politely to each other and to the teacher
Respect each other by commenting positively on others work in Design
Take responsibility for your work in Design - save digital work in organized folders and keep printed work in your book. Use assignment checklists to ensure task completion.
Always ensure you have completed and submitted the required work on time for both formative ( feedback ) and summative ( final ) deadlines.
At the end of the lesson ensure your computer space is left tidy and any materials used are put back in their rightful places eg the design box.
Make sure you understand the guidelines around ' plagiarism' of images in design. If in doubt - create your own imagery and avoid using downloaded images from the internet.
Give your best personal effort to each piece of work in Design - all work is assessed and by ensuring full completion of tasks you set yourself up to gain the best mark possible.
What you can expect from your teacher :
Regular feedback and feedforward about your work and progress in design - this is given verbally during design lessons throughout the assessment until the deadline, written feedback is given at the formative assessment. At the summative assessment a final grade is given.
REMEMBER - all students in the class need feedback opportunities. It is not reasonable to expect the teacher to work with you for the majority of the lesson when there are 21 other students who also need help and guidance. Be patient and tolerant - allow others to learn.
After a summative deadline the grade you receive is final - only students who receive a "plus" grade are entitled to resubmit. ( Eg Not Achieved - high, Achieved - high, Merit - high ). A summative deadline day is not a suitable day to ask for feedback - this should have been obtained during the 6-7 weeks of assessment activity time during the term.
I care about your progress in design - as your teacher I want you to achieve to the best level that you can. For this reason I am going to be encouraging but I am also going to 'push you' so that you achieve to your best potential. It is, however, your responsibility as a student to ask for help if you are stuck or don't understand something AND take accountability for your work by meeting deadlines and ensuring you are managing your time efficiently.
