Homework

Homework is given on a daily basis, the exceptions are weekends and vacations. One of my expectations is that homework instills responsibility and good study habits. This builds discipline which is something that needs to be learned in order to master many different accomplishments.

My other expectation is that students need practice in order to master any skill. The classroom is the place where they are exposed and discover many concepts and practices. The school day does not always allow for adequate practice of skills.

Homework gives students a set time to practice skills they have learned or are learning on their own with an adult.

The following homework is set weekly. There will also be science and social studies projects and activities that require adult supervision and guidance.

Spelling

Weekly Spelling packet will be given out on Monday and due on Friday. A spelling test will be administered on Friday. This gives students a week to complete and review spelling packet. This also develops discipline and planning.

There will be some breaks in the year when spelling packets will not be assigned.

Reading-

Reading is expected at this grade level to be a daily activity. It is not written in the homework agenda often but students should practice whenever they can to read in order to be fluent and comprehensive readers.

Math-

Rocket Math- This is basic addition and subtraction fact practice. Students will excel at their own pace and ability level. ( almost daily)

Math workbook sheets- practice the skills we learned each day in math.( almost daily)
