Our roots shape the way we see, interpret and experience the world and people around us. While our roots start at a very early age, we also continue to build roots as we grow and move through life. Some roots, new or old, can lead to difficulties and challenges in life. As with other things in life, roots can be healed.
Counseling is a deeply personal process, as is determining what challenges a person would like to overcome. You are the expert in your life.
Together, we can explore your roots as well as the various branches of your life.
Together, we can repair what you believe is keeping you from living the life you seek.
As a licensed therapist and owner of Roots Counseling, Allison has experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults on resolving past experiences or finding peace. She has also been a support for those going through life transitions such as divorce, blended/single/trauma-informed/co- parenting, relationship changes, foster care/adoption, and adolescent launching. She enjoys connecting with others at any stage of life and believes that the relationship created with a client is therapeutic on its own.
Training that she often uses includes play-based therapy, sand tray therapy, trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) as well as equine-assisted therapy and learning.
Jessica grew up dreaming of having her own horse. That prayer was answered by being blessed with her "heart horses," Irish and Rohan. Through her experiences with her own horses, Jessica believes she has been lead to equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP). She obtained her bachelor's degree in psychology and her master's degree in counseling.
Jessica believes horses offer so much for us to learn about ourselves, relationships, health/wellness, and hope. Jessica is honored and humbled to be able to offer services at Answered Pray Farm in Mancelona, MI as a safe and peaceful place for clients to find renewal, healing, and restoration.
