Transition Summer School

Important Information for All Year 6 Parents Regarding Our Summer School

Our Roding Valley High School ‘Summer School’ is fast approaching and we hope you are as excited as we are about this event. It promises to be a great 5 days to help with the transition process, learn about their new school and kick start the summer holidays!

We have some important notices below- Please take a moment to read.

COVID Statement

We have been made aware of a number of our feeder primary schools- Year 6 ‘bubbles’ having to self-isolate. Please do not send in your child for summer school if they have been advised to self-isolate. Whilst we are sorry to hear about this, it is essential that we still follow the government guidelines in regards to self-isolation and keeping everyone safe.

Obviously, if a child's self-isolation period ends and they are then able to attend some of the summer school days that have originally been requested then that is absolutely fine.

As always, if your child is experiencing Covid 19 symptoms (or any other reason), then please do not send them in for summer school. Please email transitionsupport@rodingvalley.net or alternatively call 0208 508 1173 to report an absence.

COVID Procedures

During the ‘Summer School,’ we will continue to take steps to ensure the safety of all our students and staff:

  • Good hygiene standards to be maintained: sanitising hands regularly (there will be a number of sanitising stations in and around the school).

  • Children are mostly taught in similar classes each day.

  • All classrooms are well-ventilated & cleaned regularly.

  • Some of our staff may opt to wear a mask.

  • Many of our lessons/sessions will be outside. This also includes our break and lunchtime arrangements. (weather permitting)

  • There will also be no school-based ‘Track & Trace’ system in operation from Monday 19th July. All positive cases to be picked up by the NHS ‘Track & Trace’ system.

Pick Up and Drop Off Arrangements - Brook Road

Please be aware that there will be road works on Alderton Hill that will impact surrounding roads and traffic in the local area. If you are dropping a child off by car then we will be operating a ‘drop off/pick up’’ zone in the school playground (this can be accessed at the end of Brook Road). If you’re walking, then please use the pedestrian gate at Brook Road. In both cases, you will see members of our staff ready to greet you. Please note that this is a drop-off/pick-up zone and we can not allow parents to remain on the school site.

It is essential that we stick to the timings of the ‘summer school’ day:

  • Children should arrive at school between 9am - 9:10am. (Our first session begins at 9.15 am).

  • The day ends at 3 pm. (Please be on time to collect your child)

Basic Information

Please note that children should wear clothes suitable for leisure activities. Every day there will be some form of sport/physical session. A snack at break time and lunch will be provided. However, please do ensure that your children bring in extra snacks (if required) and plenty of water/drinks for the day. We also advise that students bring in sun cream and a hat in case of hot weather during outdoor activities.

If children wish to bring their phones then they are able to do this. However, our school rules will apply. They should be switched off and not seen and we aren’t able to take responsibility for loss or damage. If you need to speak to school/your child then please call the following number for our office: 02085081173

This year as part of our transition process we are proposing to hold a Summer School for our September 2021 Year 7 students. Our Summer School will hopefully take place over a five day period from Thursday 22nd July to Wednesday 28th July, with students being asked to attend camp from 9am to 3pm and best of all, there is no charge to the parents.

Over the five day period our new Year 7 students will experience secondary life early, we will be setting a timetable that will allow them to experience key subjects like English, Maths and Science, alongside many other enrichment activities. All activities will be led by our teaching staff, who will encourage them to participate in activities that will challenge them both physically and mentally, allowing them develop both their interpersonal and academic skills, and build friendships with other children in their Year group, thus making their start to the school in September a stress free experience.

If you would like your child to take part in our Summer School, please can you register your interest by completing and submitting our form below.

Full details regarding our Summer School will emailed to all parents that have registered their interest nearer to the time.
