Course Summary

WJEC Level 1/2 Vocational Awards enable learners to gain knowledge, understanding and skills relating to a specific vocational sector. In addition to development sector specific knowledge and understanding, these qualifications also support learners to develop the essential employability skills that employers and higher education value.


WJEC Level 1/2 Vocational Awards are designed primarily for 14-16 year old learners in a school environment and include a written exam and a controlled assignment. Students will be graded from  L1 Pass to L2 Distinction*

There is the opportunity to learn about issues related to nutrition and food safety and how they affect successful hospitality and catering operations.  In this subject, learners will also develop food preparation, cooking and presentation skills. Additionally, students will develop transferable skills such as problem-solving, organisation, time management, planning and communication skills.


Through the two units, learners will gain an overview of the hospitality and catering industry and the type of job roles that may be available to assist them in making choices about progression.
