Tim drove the Model 3 Standard Range Plus for the first time! He's been driving around in the car, often in the back so it was kind of funny that he hasn't driven the car yet. I guess I have kind of babied Rocky, out Standard Range Plus Model 3, for the first couple months. One question Tim has is would the AutoPilot features make him a safer driver or not. He has fallen asleep at the wheel and this is a real concern for some people. I assured him that even if he fell asleep while the Model 3 was in AutoPilot, it would just slow down and come to a stop and wouldn't end up in a terrible crash. He didn't take long getting used to using AutoPilot and probably would have enjoyed just switching lanes with only the turn signal the whole trip!
He really liked the instant torque and driving from Calgary to Canmore was a breeze, and pretty cold outside. But when you are planning a charging stop, it doesn't really matter if you arrive with 35% or 25%, just enjoy the drive. We had the fan cranked to 4 and it was pretty warm inside. The model 3 is warm inside even on cold days. It has a few issues related to the cold weather, but more on that later when it really affected driving. All in all its a great road trip vehicle. Only one passenger didn't like it. Tico was not sure what to think, and his panting began on the first leg of this trip, poor little guy. Tico is Tim and Vanessa's Yorkie/Chihuahua. Mozzie on the other hand was completely at ease. We have taken him on shorter road trips and seems to relax much better than he ever did in our previous gas powered vehicle, a Mercedes B250.

On a nicer day you could probably charge for 15 minutes and have plenty of power to get you to the next stop in Golden. The car tells you how much you will have on the screen, so you can decide how much you want to have as a little insurance. The mountain passes are not always the best conditions at this time of year, so knowing that conditions could be bad we always made sure we had a little extra just in case we were going to be sitting waiting for a road closure. This is why we charged up to 90% and not just 80%. This became more of a concern when we were going back east 5 days later, and much more on that later.
