Test Results Communication Policy

1. Purpose
This policy outlines how Rockwise Medical communicates test results, including timelines and responsibilities, to ensure patient safety while maintaining realistic clinic workflow expectations.
2. Responsibility for Review
All test results, including bloodwork, imaging, and other investigations, are reviewed by Dr. Wiseman or an authorized delegate.
Abnormal or concerning results will be flagged for clinical follow-up.
Urgent results will be prioritized for prompt action.
3. Urgent Results
If a result is identified as urgent, our goal is to contact the patient within 72 hours (3 business days) of the result being reviewed, provided the clinic is open.
Patients are advised:
Rockwise Medical is not an emergency service.
If your test was ordered with urgent concern, or you were advised to return to the Emergency Department for follow-up, you are expected to do so without delay.
We do not assume responsibility for urgent results outside of clinic hours, including weekends and holidays.
4. Routine Results
Routine lab and test results will be followed up as part of normal clinical operations. This may include:
A phone call from the clinic
A secure message through OceanMD or other platforms
A request to book an appointment for discussion (in person or virtual)
A brief message on your voicemail without specific PHI may be left
The method of communication will depend on the nature of the result and your established care plan.
5. No News Is Not Always Good News
While we do our best to review and follow up on all results, patients are encouraged to contact the clinic if they have not heard back within:
1 week for urgent or time-sensitive tests, or
3-4 weeks for routine investigations
It remains the patient’s responsibility to ensure they follow up on test results.
6. When the Clinic is Closed
During clinic closures (weekends, holidays, or vacation periods):
New test results will not be routinely reviewed until regular operations resume.
If your test was ordered urgently or you are feeling unwell, seek care at a walk-in clinic or emergency department.
