Dear Students and Parents:
Welcome! We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Health & Physical Education with Mr. Nordland and Mr. Catalano. Although this year may bring on a few challenges, we are looking forward to beginning the new school year with all of you!
The 2020-2021 school year presents a few changes to our PE program but we are confident in knowing together we can overcome any obstacles. Please know all students with the exception of kindergarten all students will have health once a week and P.E. once a week for trimesters one and two. Trimester three all students will have P.E. twice a week. Kindergarten will have P.E. twice a week all year long.
Your support is needed! To ensure that your child will be prepared for Health and Physical Education classes please have your child wear appropriate attire on Health and P.E. days.
For the safety of all students, proper footwear is required for all students to participate in P.E. class. Proper footwear includes tennis/type sneakers with a flat bottom and laces. Velcro sneakers are accepted. ALL SNEAKERS MUST BE TIED. (Elevated shoes, sneakers with heels or wheels, sandals, boots, sneakers without laces and crocs are not safe for running.) Sneakers that are bar-laced will not be permitted.
Please ensure all clothing is comfortable and allows for easy movement. Students who wear skirts should wear shorts or pants underneath on P.E. days.
P.E. classes will be OUTSIDE as much as possible. Please be aware it tends to be colder in the mornings on the backfields and the grass is wet. In an effort for students to remain comfortable please send them to school with a jacket/sweatshirt they can put on if they feel cold.
Jewelry is also not permitted on P.E. days for safety reasons.
If a health-related situation occurs that will influence your child’s ability to participate in P.E., a note from a parent or guardian is recommended. If your child requires more than a 1 day removal from P.E. class, a doctor’s note is necessary. Please send all medical notes to the nurse. The nurse will notify the PE department of all medical injuries.

Virtual/Remote Learning
All health and P.E. class work and information will be on our Health & P.E. Google Classroom. Once you access our Health & P.E. Google Classroom you will discover everything your child needs for virtual learning is all in one place and right at your child’s fingertips. All students will need to complete one health lesson and one P.E. lesson once a week for the first trimesters. This may be done in person with us, or online depending on your child’s schedule. No matter where your child may be on any given day they will have one health class and one P.E. class once a week.
*Students should visit our google classroom on the days ONLY if they are home on those particular days and they are scheduled to have Health or P.E. * If your child is attending school and has health or P.E., there is no need to visit our google classroom - as they will have health/PE class at school.
You only need to visit our google classroom if your child is home on the day they have health and/or P.E. class.
As we continue to embark on this undoubtedly unique year, please keep in mind we are in this together. If there are any changes to our program, policies and/or procedures we will maintain our communication with all of you. Please without any hesitation feel free to contact us should you have any questions or concerns via email. Our students health, well-being and safety is our priority. We thank you for your support and anticipate a great year!!
