Hello Parents and Students!
Here's a quick update about what's going on in our history class.
Genesis & Google Classroom: I have updated the Genesis grade book with the most recent assignments. If there are any questions or concerns please let me know. All assignments are outlined and completed on Google Classroom.
World War II: We are currently studying World War II and the Holocaust. I've found in the past this provides a spark to discuss the service of past family members during the war, not only abroad but what was done to support the war effort domestically. The students are completing a group assignment (due Feb. 28) researching battles and political agreements of the war.
Cameras: One of the challenges of teaching virtually and in a hybrid manner is the use of cameras during our Google Meets. My expectation is that students have their cameras on. It creates a sense of community during a time that our social interactions are very limited. It also provides accountability for students who may be distracted by their smartphones or video games. Please note that I am aware that students for a variety of reasons may be averse to turning on their cameras, I certainly empathize. If this is the case, please let me know.
Finally, when I meet people and introduce myself as an educator and the content that I teach is history most people react the same way. "Must be an interesting time to be a history teacher." I can confidently say that throughout my almost 20 years at Copeland that despite what is going on in the news, it is always an interesting time to be a history teacher.
Be safe and well,
BA
