GENERAL SCIENCE ANNOUNCEMENTS:
In February 2020 select teachers from grades K-5 will pilot Amplify Science. Parent logins will be available below when the pilot begins.

The Science Adoption parent information night for 6-8 was held Thursday, September 26, 2019 in the Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD) Board Room. There were two sessions 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
On August 7, 2019 the RUSD School Board was presented with the recommendation for AMPLIFY SCIENCE to be used in grades 6-8. The Board approved recommendation at the October 16, 2019 Board Meeting.
RUSD has Amplify Science 6th grade through 8th grade state approved curricula on public display at the District Office. All other state approved curriculum is on display in William Jessup Library. Click here for more information about grades 6-8 science and adoption.
The science materials that have been piloted and that will be recommended to the Board do not have any content related to Comprehensive Sexual Education or the 2019 Health Education Framework.
What is California Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS)?
NGSS overview.pdfThe California Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS) are a new set of science standards (learning goals) that are based on research on how students learn best. The CA NGSS require science and engineering to be taught in every grade K-12 to build understanding and skills systematically year on year.
The CA NGSS call for teachers to facilitate more student-centered learning that enables students to think on their own, problem solve, communicate, and collaborate—in addition to learning important scientific concepts.
How is California NGSS different from previous science standards?

Three-dimensional learning—students engage in scientific inquiry of phenomena using all three dimensions of NGSS
Coherent across the curriculum—learning builds upon itself from year to year, and science integrates with other parts of the curriculum including CCSS integration with Math and Language arts.
Relevant to local communities and student interests—content and practices build on students’ existing experience to learn about and solve real-world societal and environmental problems through phenomena.
